On evolving our creative process.
"You stop in the middle of the field and, under your breath, ask the spirits animals, plants, y tus muertos—to help you string together a bridge of words. What follows is your attempt to give back to nature, los espíritus, and others a gift wrested from the events in your life, a bridge home to the self."
- Gloria E. Anzaldúa

I’ve been reflecting on stagnation lately—how, when water stops moving, it loses its clarity, its energy, its life force. What once carried life and possibility becomes clouded and still. This feels so true in our creative lives as well.
How often do we find ourselves stuck in familiar patterns, choosing comfort over the courage to explore new ways of creating? When was the last time you took a step back to examine your processinstead of focusing on the final outcome?
This quote from Gloria Anzaldúa stirs something in me, and I wonder if it does the same for you. It reminds me that bringing ideas into form is far more complex than we might think. It's not just about waiting for spontaneous inspiration or effort; it's about our connection to everything around us—the land we walk on, the connection to our bodies, the wisdom of our intuition, and even the cosmic forces at play.
How often do we forget this in the rush to be productive, to meet deadlines, to push our work forward? Creativity doesn’t follow the pace of algorithms or the pressures of output. Our most powerful ideas don’t arrive in a hurry; they emerge when we cultivate the right conditions—when we step back, listen, and allow something deeper to rise.
If these thoughts speak to you, I crafted a supportive community offering called "Conjuring the Muse" - A 21 day journey to help you reimagine your creative process. You can find out more below.
We kick off next Monday at 6pm AEST.
